The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is a trade association which represents 265+ airlines or 83% of total air traffic and is a powerful lobbying body for international air carriers.
IATA represents the airline industry and advocates their best interest. They notably aim to help the industry set standards and policies with a strong focus on safety, security and business simplification. They also provide services such as training and business intelligence publications as well as support an important “Billing and Settlement Plan”, which is a $300 billion-plus financial system (see CASS diagram).
Alongside the ICAO, it is an important and essential organization for the air transport and air freight world.
