Reefer

« Back to Glossary Index

Reefer is short for refrigerated and is used to designate a refrigerated container or box trailer.
Reefers are temperature controlled and used to transport temperature sensitive or frozen goods.

They rely on external power and when in use and in storage, on vessels or on quay they are plugged into external fixed power points whereas when on truck or rail wagons they may be plugged into an accompanying diesel generator (gen-set) – notably for longer haul or for chilled, frozen goods.
