Short sea shipping

« Back to Glossary Index

As opposed to the intercontinental deep sea shipping, short sea shipping (aka coastal shipping) refers to the maritime transport of goods and cargo over relatively short distances.
In the case of containers, short sea shipping lanes will often be served by smaller container vessel, commonly called feeder vessels and whose role will notably be to bring container from/to smaller regional ports from/to larger ones with more deep sea shipping options.
