Shipper documents

« Back to Glossary Index

A shipper is responsible for providing a certain number of documents to the consignee and other parties involved in the transport.

While certain documents are mandatory and common to all shipments, others will depend on the nature of the goods, the destination or even the used transport mode or packaging.

Some commonly required shipper provided documents are:

  • the commercial invoice
  • the packing list
  • the export/import customs declarations
  • the certificate of origin
  • the phytosanitary or fumigation certificate (goods and/or packaging)
  • the production or norm compliance certificates
Example of a packing list - a document to be provided by the shipper of cargo. A shipping document listing all cargo to be transported and including weight and dimensions.
