ULD

« Back to Glossary Index

Unit Load Devices (ULD) are used to speed up the handling of Air Freight.
Air cargo will be generally packed in Unit Load Devices (ULDs). They are adapted to various types of cargo and are designed to be as light as possible.
They fit exactly in different aircraft types and are considered part of the aircraft structure during flight.

Cargo can be packed into a ULD – Unit Load Device:

  • by the airline handling agent at the airport
  • by the forwarder at his location (generally in case of consolidation) –by the shipper at his location.
