RORO

« Back to Glossary Index

RORO or Roll On / Roll Off refers to a transport mode were cargo which is rolled on or off from a vessel.

The cargo may be self-driven (cars, buses, trailer, and tractor…) onto the vessel, or may be wheeled (unaccompanied trailers, certain construction equipment… ), or loaded onto a roll-trailer (container, generator, etc…) and towed onto the vessel.

RORO vessels are considered the fastest in terms of loading performance and often preferred over other types of cargo ships due to this efficiency.

A roll trailer used to load non-wheeled cargo (e.g. container) onto to a RORO vessel.
